Garden clearances are priced by volume and access, whether there is a side gate or everything has to come through the house makes more difference than the size of the plot.

Most gardens are a morning's work. Heavily overgrown ones are a day or two.
- 1Walk it, or send photos
Vegetation, sheds, hardstanding, and anything buried in the growth. Gardens hide things: old paving, a rotted shed base, bags of rubble from a job twenty years ago. The more honest the photos, the firmer the price.
- 2Agree what stays
Beds you are keeping, plants with sentimental value, the good pots. Mark them or name them, because to a crew clearing at pace, everything green looks the same.
- 3Cut, clear and separate
Green waste goes one way, timber another, soil and rubble a third. Mixing them costs more at the transfer station, so a good crew sorts as it works.
- 4Leave it usable
Raked over, swept paths, waste gone the same day. If you want it taken back further, to bare soil or cleared beds, say so at quote stage.
What a good garden clearance firm does
The difference shows in where the waste ends up.
Vegetation goes to composting or green recycling, not landfill. It is cheaper for them and better for everyone, so a firm that mixes it into a general load is choosing laziness over your money.
Heavy waste is priced by weight, not volume. Kept separate it goes to inert recycling; mixed in, it drags the whole load into a dearer category.
Felt roofs off, panels down, base broken up if you want it gone. A shed is an hour's careful work, not a shove.
Invasive plants like Japanese knotweed are controlled waste with a legal disposal route. A firm that shrugs and says it will go in with the rest is a firm creating a problem on your land and theirs.
Lawns boarded where barrows cross, beds you named left untouched, the good pots set aside.
Bagged green waste left on a drive for collection later has a way of becoming permanent. It leaves when the crew does.
Overgrown is fine. Knotweed is different.
However far gone a garden looks, it is still just labour: brambles, ivy, self-seeded sycamores, a lawn that became a meadow. Crews clear worse every week, and nobody will comment on the state of it.
Japanese knotweed is the exception worth naming. It is classed as controlled waste, it must go to a licensed facility rather than a compost heap, and letting it spread off your land is a legal problem. If you suspect it, bamboo-like canes, shield-shaped leaves, tell the firm before they quote. Treating it usually needs a specialist rather than a clearance crew, and a good firm will say exactly that instead of pretending a strimmer solves it.
Everything else, including the shed with the wasp nest and the pond nobody has seen the bottom of since the nineties, is routine. Mention it anyway. Surprises change prices; named problems do not.
