    Name the awkward items

    Paint, gas bottles, tyres and plasterboard have their own routes and their own fees, and asbestos is not part of a general load at all. Named up front, none of it is a problem.

Household waste that ends up fly-tipped gets investigated, and the law expects you to have taken reasonable steps to hand it to an authorised carrier. Where a household cannot show that, councils can issue fixed penalties, set locally within a statutory range of £150 to £600, and prosecution is possible in the worst cases.

The too-good price on a social media ad is usually cheap for a reason: no licence, no transfer station fees, and a load that ends up in a lane with your post in one of the bags. The two-minute alternative: ask for the CBDU number, check it on the Environment Agency register, keep the receipt.
